Why does education matter?

At Rehema Home, we believe the ultimate goal of education is to empower the individual and encourage self-reliance. Education, even at a young age, is pivotal because it opens opportunities for employment later in life.

This year our theme is Building Tomorrow One Lesson at a Time. this theme reflects our dedication to providing quality education to every child under our care, Imagining a world where every child's potential is nurtured, circumstances do not restrict dreams, and knowledge resonates within every heart. – a symbol of hope for our children's future!

The goal is for our students to graduate and score well on the standardized exam (KCSE), as well as the new education system, CBC. Doing so will give them a better chance of getting into a higher education program. If they are accepted into and graduate from a higher education program, then they will have a significantly better chance of securing a paying job in Kenya’s competitive job market. 

WHERE ARE WE COMING FROM?

Rehema Home started in 1998 with 4 young children. Today, we serve 89 babies, toddlers, kids, tweens, teens, and young adults between our two locations. Of the 89 in our care, 60 are currently enrolled in either Baby Class (Preschool), Nursery (Preschool), Pre-Unit (Kindergarten), Standard 1-8 (Grade School and Middle School), or Form 1-4 (High School). There is a tremendous difference between the cost of educating 4 students 20 years ago and 60 students today. 

How do we select Schools?

We rely on the expertise of our Directors, Administrators, and Social Workers to determine the best placement for each student. We try to accommodate students with special needs by connecting them with resources in our area (i.e. students who are hearing-impaired, students who have dyslexia, etc.).

When evaluating potential schools, we take into account each school’s core values, curriculum, goals, and activities. Since Rehema Home is a Christian organization, we are specifically looking for classrooms that reflect those values.

What Does it Cost?

In Kenya, education isn’t free. Even public schools require fees. We aim to provide the best education that we can reasonably afford. For that reason, our students are enrolled in both private and public schools. On average, for all 60 students to be fully prepared for school, it costs $38,514 per year.

From Rehema Home Nairobi, there are 45 students who are enrolled for school in 2023. The classes include Baby Class (Preschool) all the way through Form 1-4 (High School). On average, for all 45 students to be fully prepared for school, it costs $35,580 per year.

From Rehema Home Bukura, there are 15 students who are enrolled for school in 2023. The classes include Nursery (Preschool) all the way through Standard 1-6 (Grade School). On average, for all 15 students to be fully prepared for school, it costs $2,934 per year.
